1959 Elva Courier MK II

This Elva was most likely assembled late 1959. It was registered in the United States in 1961, and today is currently registered as a historic vehicle. It was originally used only as a street car and was never raced, although it was suitable for racing. The Elva was enhanced by its most recent owner in 1990 for vintage racing.

The enhancements include the following:

  • 10lb Halon system
  • Accusump with electrical control
  • Oberg oil filter with cooler
  • Collapsable steering column
  • Side intrusion bar
  • Quaife limited slip differential, 4:11 rear
  • Steel rear axles with double bearing hubs
  • Sprint car pedal box with brake bias adjustment
  • Hi torque starter
  • Cold air box and intake w/ filter
  • Pertronix electronic ignition
  • Custom windscreen by Sasco

Chassis:

  • Chassis #: 100/138L
  • Original chassis tag is present
  • Front suspension pickup points were reinforced by Jack Merryman is 2004. The chassis was reinforced under the transmission.

Engine:

  • 1622cc MGA – was built by Prather, as a full race motor and installed in 1992. This motor provides great torque and is able to push the transmission to the 8000 RPM red line.
  • Original engine is a MGA # 486 – 157 – RS – 13354. The original block is included with the sale.
  • Engine rebuilt in 2012
  • Head has been ported (Ladd’s Porting Service, 2007) to a high standard
  • cog belt drive

Gearbox:

  • MGB close ratio
  • Rebuilt in 4/96
  • New clutch in 2012

Suspension:

Coil over shocks

Fuel Cell

was custom made to fit in place of the original fuel tank

Brakes:

  • Original drum
  • New linings in 2013, no races since.
  • All components replaced or rebuilt as needed

Wheels:

  • Elva 15″ alloy wheels
  • Original steel 14″ wheels
  • Dunlop 204 tires (only 1 weekend race)

Body:

  • Fiberglass body
  • Painted red
  • Small area of cracked paint on top of the front right fender, and there are some cracks in the paint on the hood. Other than that the paint is excellent condition.
  • Instrumentation:
  • EGT gage with sensor on each exhaust header
  • Oberg oil filter with warning light
  • Low oil pressure electric cut-off

  • Locked 4:56 rear, freshly rebuilt
