The Lotus 17 was designed and built in 1959 to compete with the Lola Mk. I, which had been beating the, then-current, Lotus 11. It emerged as a very successful Sports-racer after a re-design of the suspension produced the Mk. 11.

This is a late Mk. 17 and is very competitive in its class, having won first overall in the Endurance Championship (Group 4) in 1997 with SVRA. It was also awarded Ken Miles Award in 1999 at the Monterey Historics.

Motor:

  • MacEachern 1460 cc Coventry Climax with reinforced lower end (rebuilt)
  • Fresh, no hours (only dyno time)
  • Strengthened plate for main bearings.
  • Compression ratio 13:1.
  • 140 HP @ 7000 rpm
  • 108 foot per pound torque @ 5300 RPM

  • Custom ceramic control port matched stepped headers with sequential pulse collector.

Gearbox:

  •  Richmond DGG 400 dog-ring gearbox (4 speed) with useable 1st gear, ratios 1st 19.33, 2nd 21.29, 3rd 24.28, with 4.88:1 CWP ratio and Salisbury type L.S. unit.
  • The differential housing has been modified to accept lip-type oil seals, differential has been disassembled, inspected and reassembled with new pinion seal.

Chassis:

  • Special aluminum front bearing hubs with track widening aluminum spacers
  • Fabricated steel lug stud retaining rings
  • Fabricated screw-on dust caps.
  • Front anti-roll bar
  • Over front shock/spring units with Eibach springs
  • Special rear Chapman type strut/coil over shock units with adjustable camber feature at upper mounts
  • Special oversize “dogbone” rear lower control arms.
  • Improved roll bar and chasis stiffening side impact bars
  • Differential mount re-fabricated to ease remove and reinstall of differential
  • Rod ended front tie rods

Fuel cell:

  • Custom Fuel Safe fuel cell (made into original aluminum gas tank)
  • Electric fuel pump
  • Holley fuel pressure regulator with fuel pressure gauge
  • Fully Aeroquipped (10 size with remote spin-on filter head and 18 row oil cooler)

Cooling:

Custom 4″ thick aluminum radiator with special aluminum shrouding and in nose fiberglass ducting

Brakes:

  • Girling aluminum calipers (front and rear)
  • Brakes rebuilt for 2008
  • Balance bar brake pedal
  • Front brakes are O.B.D., rears are I.B.D
  • Fully Aeroquipped, ducting to front brakes

Instrumentation:

  • Stack “Classic” electronic memory tachometer
  • Smiths dual (oil pressure, water temperature) gauge – rebuilt and recalibrated
  • Stewart Warner oil temperature gauge
  • Low oil pressure light
  • Hour meter

Suspension

  • Front suspension components
